A TASTER OF STRAWBS
===================

For those interested in hearing a few snippets from the imminent boxed set,
I've uploaded five short MP3 extracts.

PLEASE DON'T ALL GO THERE AT ONCE - SHOW RESTRAINT, OR I'LL BUST MY
BANDWIDTH !!!

--
DAVE COUSINS - NOT ALL THE FLOWERS GROW
Dave's heartbreaking song inspired by the awful Aberfan disaster, 40 years
ago on 21 Oct 1966, in which a school was engulfed by a mining waste tip,
and many children died.

STRAWBS - THE BATTLE
A live session recording of this song, currently appearing again in the
Acoustic Strawbs' live show. This session brought together future Strawbs
Claire Deniz (cello) and a fledgling Rick Wakeman (keyboards).

DAVE COUSINS - OUT IN THE COLD (DEMO)
Dave has often reminded us how the Strawbs classics were written, simply,
on acoustic guitar or piano - here's an example ....

DAVE COUSINS - THE MERCHANT ADVENTURER (DEMO)
Another demo from Dave, this time of an unreleased sing, demoed for Deep
Cuts but not pursued. Damn catchy IMHO (can't get it out of my head at
present )...

STRAWBS - BLUE ANGEL
The first set of sessions for Deep Cuts, produced by Tom Allom, produced
this Strawbs version of Dave's "Blue Angel", regarded by many as one of his
most impressive songs, which was abandoned as the band moved on to the
Rupert Holmes/Jeffrey Lesser sessions.

Hope you enjoy the extracts - the boxed set is released on 30 October.
Available on order from good record shops via Pinnnacle or you can order
from www.witchwoodrecords.co.uk via the online shop or phone (01536 399
011; outside UK +44 1536 399 011) or fax (01536 399012; outside UK +44 1536
399 012).

We look forward to getting your reactions to A Taste of Strawbs - please
send reviews, comments etc. to: dgreener@ndirect.co.uk.

CRY NO MORE CHRISTMAS PARTY, 23 DEC 2006
========================================

Get close to the spirit of Christmas with the Cry No More Christmas Party,
as Roy Hill and our own Mr Chas Cronk return to revive their flagging
spirits (and ours !) with another Yule-flavoured cocktail of jaunty
melodies and richly spiced repartee one more time.

Mr Hill has been feeling a bit peaky of late, but is now fully recovered
and will be leaping about the stage and auditorium in his usual manner,
whilst Chas looks on aghast.

The lucky venue:
The Turks Head
Winchester Road
St Margarets
Twickenham TW11LF

Tel no: 0208 979 3943
Doors: 8.00pm (tbc)
Showtime: about 9.00pm

Always a crowd-pleaser. See you there !!!!

News in that the band Dave put together to play the Deal Folk Festival on
17 Sept this year will reform to play at the Strawbs Christmas Party on 2 Dec.

Dave Cousins leads a stellar cast:
* Guitarist Miller Anderson (Two Weeks Last Summer, Heartbreak Hill, Keef
Hartley Band, latterly Spencer Davis Group) who delivered a splendid House
Of The Rising Sun and fabulous guitar throughout, especially on the epic
"Blue Angel" itself.
* Ian Cutler (Feast of Fiddles, Bully Wee) offers up simply stunning fiddle
pyrotechnics.
* Chris Hunt on drums (The Bruvvers, Lonnie Donegan) and our own Mr Cronk
keep it all together perfectly.

Not to be missed - those who caught it in Deal will be back again for more!

There are other surprises to come - more later .....
