========================================================
STRAWBS 40TH ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND EVENT - 12/13 SEPT 2009
========================================================

I am delighted to announce that there will be a Strawbs 40th Anniversary Weekend event, to take place in the UK on Sat/Sun 12/13 September 2009. There's a nice connection with Strawberry Hill House Trust who will receive a donation from the proceeds of the weekend.

Whilst details are being finalised as to who will appear, we wanted to get the date in your diaries as soon as possible so that you can think about travel plans.

We expect to be able to announce more details shortly. As with the 30th anniversary celebrations at Chiswick House, we expect various Strawbs line-ups will perform, and there'll be related band/artist appearances. We hope there'll be some really big surprises.....

Already confirmed in principle and lots more to come:
* Strawbs including Oliver Wakeman
* Acoustic Strawbs
* John Ford
* Blue Weaver
* Cry No More
* Ian Cutler
* Strawberry Fools

NB Please don't e-mail me about other possible guests - I will tell you as soon as I can.

The venue is the Live Room in the new South Stand at Twickenham Rugby Ground. Check it out at: www.twickenhamexperience.com. There is a licensed bar in the Rose Suites, which we'll be able to use.

Attendance will be limited. Weekend tickets only will be available: prices to be announced - I expect the weekend ticket price to be around 80-85 GBP.

There's a Marriott Hotel associated with the venue which some visitors may wish to stay at: we may be able to facilitate a reduced room rate. We'll let you have details of other possible hotels in the area.

It is intended that the whole weekend will be filmed/recorded for audio and video release in 2010. But we think you'll want to be there in person! As will a certain collection Fools who will be performing at this extravaganza !

Addendum - why 30 plus 11 equals 40
-----------------------------------
To forestall any smart**** questions as to why the 40th anniversary is 11 years after Chiswick: the anniversary we are celebrating is the 40th anniversary of the release of Strawbs first album in 1969. That's our story and we're sticking to it.

ELECTRIC TOUR - CANADA - MARCH 2009
===================================

A new date has been added to the tour - Sun 8 March 2009 - Empire Theatre, Bellville ON

================
ELECTRIC UK TOUR
================

The Letchworth date previously announced as 14 May 2009 is in fact taking place on 19 May 2009. Apologies for the duff information.

There has been some confusion over the gig at the Stables, Wavendon on 26 May, but I'm able to confirm that the gig is definitely on. It is not currently on their website, as the tickets are not yet available for general sale: they will be as of 2 March, and the show will be added to the Stables website at that point.

===========================
2ND INTERNATIONAL MELLOFEST
===========================

YES IT'S BACK!!! (No sign of DC being involved again though, shame.)

Continuing the new festival celebrating the Mellotron keyboard and the music it inspires. Onstage at MelloFest 2 will be three Mellotrons (at least!) and a guest list of classic rock and contemporary artists. The 'unplugged' night features music, so far confirmed, from Jakko Jakszyk with special guests (from King Crimson alumni 21st Century Schizoid Band), and Martin Orford (IQ) - plus a Mellotron workshop. And, if time permits, we'll even have an 'open Mellotron' session... More details at www.mellofest.com or phone +44(0)7961 154590.

Saturday May 2nd, 7.30pm
at The Luminaire
311 High Road, Kilburn, London NW6 7JR

ELECTRIC US TOUR WITH CLASSIC BANDS
===================================

News in:

TCI Artists (Strawbs US booking agent) has indicated that there are tentative plans for a June/July US Tour where Strawbs will be sharing a bill with several UK bands. Further details will be announced in
the coming months.

Likely time period is from mid June to mid July.

==================================================
JOHN FORD - PROGRESSIVE ROCK HALL OF FAME/UK DATES
==================================================

News just in - John Ford has been voted the Progressive Rock Indie Artist of the Year by the Progressive Rock Hall of Fame.

Also announced that John will play some UK dates in September 2009.

=================================================================
ACOUSTIC STRAWBS PLAY GREAT BRITISH BEER FESTIVAL - 5 AUGUST 2009
=================================================================

Great news just in that the boys will play another date at the Campaign For Real Ale's GBBF at Earls Court in London on Wed 5 Aug 2009.

Wednesday's a good day to visit the Festival as it's not too busy, and I think there'll be a strong Strawbs fan contingent there to meet up as there was a couple of years ago. Strawbs plus exotic beers - how could anyone resist ?

The Festival is open 12noon to 10.30pm on that date.
Time of performance: TBC

Day Tickets (on the door)
£8 (CAMRA members)
£10 (Non-CAMRA members)

Advance Day Tickets
£6 (CAMRA members)
£8 (Non-CAMRA members)

Tickets will be available online from March 2009.

SHINDIG
=======

There's an excellent article on Strawbs in a back issue of Shindig magazine which I've only just become aware of.

You can buy Vol 2, Issue 7 (Nov/Dec 2008) from:

http://www.shindig-magazine.com/backissues.html

We've already told you about a similar article on Dave Lambert/Fire.

==============
THUNDERFINGERS
==============

The TV documentary "THUNDERFINGERS", which includes Dave Lambert and various other musicians (including Rick Wakeman and Gordon Giltrap) recounted numerous tales of their friendships with John, following his sad and untimely death, is now available in DVD format

STRAWBERRY FOOLIN'
==================

Courtesy of Mr Les Fool, there's some new wallpaper loaded onto the Strawberry Fools site - www.strawberryfools.co.uk.

There's also some more audio recordings of the final rehearsal before our debut on 6 Dec last year - on the "fugues" page.
