STRAWBSWEBNEWS - JULY 2012

As the Olympics hoo-hah starts up, threatening to make a complete dog's dinner of London's transport system for the next couple of months, there's some great news for Strawbs fans to take their minds off it all.

OF A TIME REVIEWS
=================

Some great reviews coming in for this release, due to post out in July.

Record Collector (issue 403 out now) has a 4-star review ("an absolutely fascinating work, .... a tantalising period piece") alongside a feature piece with a Dave Cousins interview in the reviews section.

There's also a great review in Shindig magazine.

You can still pre-order the album at the Witchwood Records online shop to get it delivered on release, price £12 plus P&P.

DEADLINES (PLUS)
================

What's coming
-------------

Work is now well under way for Witchwood Media's release of Deadlines, the last of the classic period (60s and 70s) albums not currently available on CD. As well as the original album, the package is likely to include (actual running order TBC):

- Midnight (the out-take)
- 6 acoustic demos and a band demo
- mixes from the original sessions (*)

* As you may recall, Deadlines had to be recorded twice, after a studio accident damaged one of the master tapes. Fortunately, 2-track studio mixes of those earlier sessions survived.

Release date probably September.

Pre-ordering - exclusive MP3s
-----------------------------
We'll be starting pre-ordering shortly - as well the usual name-in-the-booklet, there are some tracks we can't fit on the CD, so there'll be some exclusive MP3s to download for those who pre-order before the closing date from the Witchwood Records online shop.

I'll e-mail again when pre-ordering is live.

WAKEMAN & GORDON GILTRAP - ALBUM
--------------------------------

There's an album to come as well:

Gordon and Oliver first met during one of his Dad's Christmas concerts where they both performed back in 2009. Gordon recently contacted Oliver with the offer of performing on his next solo album but this soon changed into a full scale collaboration.

The following is taken from Gordon's website - "On the creative front I am currently collaborating with that outstanding keyboard player Mr Oliver Wakeman. He and I are working together on my first 'rock' album since the late 70's.This project will see a return to my 'Prog Rock' roots, and the prospect of working with a man considered by many to be one of the best in the business truly excites me!"

AND FINALLY ...
---------------
In the middle of all this, congratulations also to Oliver and his wife - their second child was born a short while ago. Lottie Alys Wakeman was born at 1.56am on Saturday morning so lots of sleepless nights ahead!
