Sat 7 Aug 1965

review of Cambridge Folk Festival
"Britain's first folk garden fete was what someone unkindly said about last weekend's Cambridge Folk Festival, and to a certain extent they were right. But it was surprisingly unfestive. Maybe it was the programme, which contained die-hard traditionalists like Peggy Seeger and Bob Davenport with the crowd-courting commercialism of the Clancy Brothers, Tommy Makem and the Strawberry Hill Boys. In trying to please everyone, organiser Ken Woollard merely ensured that no-one enjoyed the whole of the programme. (Meldoy Maker)"
