The first single after the split with Strawbs for the "Part Of The Union" writing team, stepping out on their own, was a decent hit, reaching number 8 in the UK charts. A&M released the single fairly widely around Europe as well as the US and Australia.
The b-side has not appeared on any album.
"Pick Up the Pieces" was issued on CD on the UK version of Halcyon Days.
This title was not always repeated in full. On the cover of the Dutch picture sleeve, the designer only had room for "This is not the way (to end the war)" though the record label was correct. The US release shortened the title: "Not the Way To End A War".
The b-side is a non-album track. The a-side may be a different mix or edit, as the album version differs.
"Burn Baby Burn" is a non-album track as far as the UK is concerned. It appeared on the US edition of Nickelodeon, replacing "Solitude". It also was issued on CD on the UK version of Halcyon Days.
There are many variant printings of "Burn Baby Burn" - some are marked printed in Holland, some marked printed in England, others with no information, all with the normal AMS 7XXX UK numbering format, rather than the European-style XXXXX AT numbering. It looks as though UK and Holland may both have issued the single as a picture sleeve (which has the UK numbering) and some singles sold in UK may have been printed in Holland.
Interesting release - the brown label design looks a bit like an Australian or NZ release (like the brown label release of Hero And Heroine, which is thought to be a Scandinavian release. The A&M "plate" sleeve confirms it with the legend "(P) 1972 A&M Records Inc. Distributed in Sandinavia and Finland by the Sonet Group". (1972 may refer to the sleeve or this may have come from an older 45, as the record clearly has a 1974 date.) So it looks like Sonet, which had indepedently released Strawbs albums from the very beginning, was no longer doing so by late 1973/early 1974, but were acting merely as a distributor for A&M thereafter.

Both the above sleeves have the same single inside

"Floating In The Wind" was issued on CD on the UK version of Halcyon Days.
Release copies may have been printed with an "A" to show the A-side. No trace of a copy without the "A", so promo may be identical to release copy.
"Waterfall" is a non-album track.
"Lost In A World" is a non-album track.
"Sold On Love" is a non-album track.
The original CDR was sold at the Harrogate gig, an instant collector's item.
Even rarer still are the very few earlier CDR trial copies with a slightly different design - a £10 note rather than the pound symbol kicking the Euro into touch.

The CD single, pressed up for the 2001 tour, has two versions of the song - the original, recorded here in the UK, and a new rock version, recorded by John over in the States - as well as a bonus track "The GB Jig" also recorded by the boys some time ago under an alias, the GBs.
